Machine Quilting

Introduction to Machine Quilting

Please note this course is a supported self-paced course and you will be joining the Quilting Bee sessions (Monday/Tuesday afternoons 1pm-4pm) where everyone works on their own projects

Do you want to learn how to quilt using a sewing machine?

How to use a walking foot

How to use a free motion foot

Or simply build on your quilting skills?

Join us over 6 weeks and you’ll learn how to add texture and colour to your quilts.

We’ll spend time looking at parallel lines (straight and curvy), decorative stitches, practising some free motion ideas, and pattern building.

You’ll work on a new sample each week, building towards a final project where you’ll design and make your own simple cushion cover

Here’s what you’ll need to bring

–  6 x 18inch square quilt sandwiches – one for each week. Use a  plain fabric for top and backing with a layer of wadding in between. Either pin basted or spray glue basted (don’t worry about this we will be covering it in the first class). Bring both a co-ordinating and a contrasting thread, and spare bobbins.

– paper, pencil, masking tape, and a ruler.

What Students Say

“Doing Rachel’s class, introduction to machine quilting, has taught me so much about my sewing machine; what stitches it can do, how to change and use the different feet and quilting accessories, how using different threads and changing the stitch length creates different effects and how to add texture and pattern to the plainest of fabrics

I’m not afraid of my machine any more. I love it!
